Phyllida Barlow Monika Sosnowska Franz West
19.01.2024 – 23.02.2024

Opening: Thursday, 18.1.2024, 5 pm
Open: Fridays, 5–8 pm and by appointment nest.exhibitions@zhdk.ch

Though Phyllida Barlow, Monika Sosnowska, and Franz West come from different backgrounds and generations, they all explore the definition of space and how it can be challenged. The viewers are placed at the center of the work, witnessing the space around them being reinvented in dimension, color (or lack thereof), and architectural structures. Their material assemblages and juxtapositions explore power dynamics within the private and public domains. By using a wide range of unexpected and brittle materials such as cardboard, foam, or steel, wood, and ready-made, all three artists reflect the urban life of 20th-century postwar Europe.

The students of the BA Fine Arts program, Aurora Ademi, Grace Baumann, Alice Bünger, Jens Burkart, Anna Chiavi, Marta Ferri, Costanza Giorgi, Ula Grineviciute, Isatou Jallow, Christin Khaukha, Hyungseo Kim, Virgínia Neta, Anton Nikitin, Tom Ohmer, Fabiola Nongla Siegfried, Pablo Stalder collectively curated this exhibition in the module Art & Exhibiting: Nest with loans of the Ursula Hauser Collection.
